 FAQS - Frequently Asked Questions

1. How are steeples made?

Steeples are made from fiberglass and resins that are applied ("shot from a fiberglass gun actually" onto a mold or pattern. Every steeple (and baptistry or cross) are made using a pattern. The paint is applied using a special gel-coat paint system designed for fiberglass. White is the normal color, but special colors can be offered for an additional charge. Steeples are made in one, two or three sections.

2. How long does it take for my steeple to be manufactured?

It depends on the size of the steeple, but most small and medium size steeples are manufactured in 4-6 weeks. Large church steeples may take 8 weeks.

3. Can we pick up our steeple?

Yes, you can, but keep in mind the length of these and bring appropriate equipment (trailer, truck, rope to tie down, etc. The factory is located at Wedowee, AL, near Anniston, in the far eastern area of the state. It is approximately 100 miles from Atlanta or Birmingham. Charlotte is about 340 miles.

4. How do I pick the correct steeple?

Selecting a steeple starts with finding the height and width of your building. You will want to find the height of the building from the ground to the peak of the roof. Then select a steeple that is close to the same height. Also, measure the width of the same area, then look for a steeple base that is about 15% of the width area. For example, if your building is 36' wide and 30' tall, you will want a steeple that is about 30' tall and 5' to 6' wide. Finally, look at the architectural features of your building. Are there round top windows? Look for a steeple that has this. How about columns on the building? Look for a steeple with pilasters. These are just guidelines but can be helpful. More info

5. The contractor says we need a wind load report. What does this mean?

A wind load report is a report done by a Certified Engineer which indicates how strong winds will affect the steeple in your particular location. They take into consideration the height of your building, landscape, location and other factors. It is not required in most areas, but a few areas subject to hurricanes now require it. The cost is $300.

6. How much wind can the steeple withstand?

Generally the steeples are designed to withstand 120 MPH winds, however it will depend on the terrain, how tall your building is and other factors. Keep in mind that your roof may start to come off before the winds get to that point.

7. Can we design our own steeple?

Yes you can, but keep in mind these guidelines. First, all steeples use a mold or pattern for manufacturing. If you are requesting a custom steeple, you will be responsible to pay for the new pattern, which can be as costly as the steeple. In some cases, we can mix the base from one steeple with the spire or top from another, at little or no additional cost. Most steeples also come with a variety of optional features, such as praying hands, crosses, louvers, etc.
